Conference attendees around Juno Health HIMSS booth

We had the opportunity to attend the 2023 HIMSS conference with more than 40,000 other health professionals to network, learn, discover, and discuss health technologies. We got to chat with hundreds of healthcare professionals when they stopped by the Juno Health booth to grab one of our coveted T-shirts. (Didn’t get one? We can send one your way!)

We learned a lot about what everyone is excited about and what hurdles healthcare IT continues to face.

TOP HIMSS23 TAKEAWAYS

We asked our Juno Health team members who attended HIMSS for their top takeaways. Here’s what they had to say:

Biggest Takeaway for the Outlook of Healthcare IT

A significant trend we all noticed is that technology for virtual healthcare and AI is leading the path forward. In fact, the healthcare industry is going to be the sector that is most impacted by the enormous advancements in AI. At HIMSS 2023, we saw many examples of AI being used to better meet patient and physician needs. Ashley Lee, our program manager, noted being inspired by Nuance's use of AI in Dragon Medical One, which helps clinicians save time through clinical documentation via speech recognition.

Telehealth is also becoming more of the norm as healthcare systems are prioritizing virtual care. Using technology and AI to improve processes and workflows can make healthcare more personalized, more cost-effective, and even more equitable.

Erin Goodman, our senior application analyst, said:

"During and post-COVID, there has been a definite shift toward virtual healthcare to meet patient needs. I feel as though this space has grown and will continue to grow rapidly due to the use of personal devices and the ease of use for patients."

Favorite Moment of the Conference

The Flamingle reception and the skits our team participated in were some of our favorite moments, but other popular answers from the team included the size of the event and how many people got to experience Juno Health’s product.

Erin Goodman said:

"Being a first-time HIMSS attendee and not knowing what exactly to expect, plus the sheer size of the conference was a little intimidating at first. Seeing the support from EVERYONE was AWESOME!"

Amber Ramos, our senior solutions demonstration specialist, said her favorite moment stemmed from our healthcare IT support for physicians:

"Getting to show our product and being able to fill so many needed gaps in our health industry. After being on the other side (bedside nursing) for so long, it's empowering to be a part of the solution that will make documentation and the entire patient care process more efficient for all clinicians."

Top Things Our Team Learned

There’s always a lot to take in at conferences, but some things simply stand out above others. One of those standouts is the evolution of DSS and Juno Health and QHIN and TEFCA, which are regulatory suggestions to support nationwide interoperability.

On this topic, Ramos said:

"There are so many details that go into creating an efficient system that I was unaware of. Providers and clinicians are not only concerned with how an EHR might look but also how comprehensive the system is with interoperability, the secure sending of patient information, and how the data tables affect all of this."

Biggest Challenges Our Team Members Heard from Attendees

There are several challenges in modern healthcare, but one of the top challenges Ramos heard at HIMSS 2023 was “having a single system that spans and covers ALL elements needed to care for a patient across multiple organizations.”

If Our Team Members’ Experience Had a Theme Song, It Would Be:

  • “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor—Erin Goodman
  • “Looks Like We Made It” by Barry Manilow—Hilary Kloska, Director of Clinical Content
  • “Movin’ On Up” by Ja’net Dubois and Oren Waters—John Sefchick, Senior Project Manager

John added that the reason for his song choice was because “I remember when Juno Health/DSS was in a tiny booth and just in Virginia!”

WE'RE ON A MISSION TO CHANGE EHRything

We worked hard on Juno EHR, and we take advantage of events such as the HIMSS conference 2023 to learn more about other technologies and the latest healthcare news as well as to see how we can address current and future gaps in physicians' needs.
